Alison Earl (nee Gout) from Burgess Hill posted this comment on Wednesday 17 February 2010 23:29:00.

This looks like it was taken outside James Knight's the drapers. I had my first Saturday job here in their haberdashery department. The shop is still in the same location, but is no longer owned by the Knights, even though they have kept the name.

This is another picture of fleet number 6, this time after being rebodied in 1915

Comment 3

Andrew Kulka from Reigate posted this comment on Thursday 16 August 2012 12:29:00.

This picture is taken in Station Approach, Redhill outside of R Nicol & Son, Drapers. The building is still there although much changed at street level.

Comment 4

Martin Snow from Redhill, Surrey posted this comment on Thursday 06 March 2014 19:43:00.

At first glance one could easily believe it was outside Knights in Reigate, however it appears Andrew Kulka could be right. Above the bus you see the large letter J to the left, which could be the J from J. Sainsbury which was the shop next door tp Nicols, now the cycle shop.

Comment 5

MARTIN SNOW from Redhill posted this comment on Tuesday 23 September 2014 23:21:00.

Having since enlarged the image above I can now see the full letting of J. Sainsbury and therefore this image is 100% confirmed as Station Road Redhill. In the photo below its the shop with the canopy where one can see the lettering above. Thanks

This vehicle is No 7 in the East Surrey fleet, with a Dennis chassis and a Chalmers body. It was withdrawn on the outbreak of the first world war and the chassis passed to the war department.

This vehicle is number 69 in the East Surrey fleet, though not owned by them but on loan from the London General Omnibus Company. It is an AEC 'K' type and is fleet number K895 in their fleet. It was put into service in March 1923 and was returned to LGOC in October 1929.

In front of what is now Mrs Greenwood's dental surgery in Reigate Road, corner of Deerings Road Reigate.
This is nearly opposite the Grammar School. Harry Snook.
With thanks to Ian White for spotting the location.

This picture is of East Surrey's fleet No 20 which entered service in July 1919 with an AEC chassis and an ex-LGOC body, it was withdrawn from service in 1925. It is shown on route s22, which only ran to Hartfield from May 1924 until June 1926, and again from October 1926 until January 1927.
